The Cally Single Grain Scotch Whisky aged 40 years limited release. Distilled in 1974 bottled in 2015
Highly complex yet wonderfully open and accessible throughout, it has a compelling nose and is clean, fresh and fruity to drink with a pleasing, oaky character that grows when a little water is added. Quite out of the ordinary, it is one of the most individual whiskies you could taste and it makes an excellent aperitif.
The nose is mouth-watering, with sweet fruit chews, fresh peach, ripe melon and zesty orange peel over a base of vanilla sponge, with a hint of fresh-planed oak.
The palate is immediate, with fresh acidity: lightly sweet and oily, it shows smooth chocalate and vanilla with a spicy warmth and real pungency. Reduced, the texture becomes softer and the taste cooling and creamy, with burnt suger and cocoa.
The finish is long, complex and oily, with finly coating dry, dark chocolate and oak. Warming with water: softer and creamier now, with aromatic sandalwood.
